The Playland Suite
Shanan Campanaro (Eskayel) & Michelle Zacks (Spaced Out)
The Playland Suite sleeps up to four guests with a private bathroom and kitchen fully equipped with stove-top and refrigerator. The bedroom sleeps two people on a Queen Size bed, along with room for two more on either the pull out trundle or day bed in the private lounge area.
San Diego natives and world travelers, Shanan Campanaro of Eskayel and Michelle Zacks of Spaced Out are excited to have been chosen to collaborate on a room at the Playland Motel.
Shanan and Michelle – close friends and travel companions – believe in story-telling through design, have a keen eye for composition and color, and often find inspiration through their travels to places like Bali and Talum. This time Shanan and Michelle are drawing inspiration from someplace a bit closer to home: the Rockaways.
Displayed throughout the bedroom, the Bungalow pattern created by Shanan creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere immediately upon entering. Shown in complimentary colors, Braganza and L'eckwa are used to decorate the living room, kitchen and bath, but it is the meaning behind these words that truly help tell this design story. Bungalow pays homage to the first type of housing in the Rockaways, while Braganza is the name of the Portuguese queen after which the city of Queens was named. L'eckwa, meaning “sand” in the Lenape Indian language, was also one of two words that comprised the Indian word for Rockaway.
Together, Shanan and Michelle are creating a bright, breathtaking aesthetic that brings the color of the Rockaways inside, creating a plush, vibrant beach bungalow unlike any other.

About Michelle Zacks
Michelle Zacks honed her eye for design through 15 years in the fashion industry, building highly regarded clothing brands Spring&Clifton and Holy Tee, as well as collaboration collections with Urban Outfitters and the Reformation.
When fellow clothing designer Lyndsey Butler of VEDA came to Michelle for help developing a concept for the interior of her flagship store in SoHo, Michelle found herself in a new and exciting realm of creative direction.
The fortuitous collaboration launched a new career path for Ms. Zacks, inspiring her to launch her interior design company, Spaced Out. "I loved doing that project so much I decided at that moment to focus my energy on interiors," says Zacks.
"I think I have a really unique and creative point of view to offer to interiors, coming from a fashion background," says Zacks. "I've always loved telling a story through design, and I believe in the importance of "beautiful living."
Spaced Out lets me share my thoughts on home and commercial design, as well as inner space and our magical world at large.
