Rawlins Calderone Design
Rockaway Playland Motel Room #5 has been dubbed “The Super Collective”. Athena and John design-directed a team of kindred, artistic spirits, each committed to their respective craft as well as inspired to be part of the rebuilding of the Rockaways.
Acclaimed visual artist Shantell Martin has graced the walls of the room with her stream of conscious drawings. Super-Brand has donated a surf-board which has become an additional canvas for Shantell’s inner vision. Aussie Surfer/Model/Set-builder Bruce Raubenheimer has donated his expertise to craft assorted built-in features for the room, assuring functionality shares equal importance to style.
The color palette of the room is bright and bold, inspired by the sea yet realized with unpredictable details such as colorful marine rope applied to the walls delineating these broad surfaces and containing Shantell’s site-specific installation.
